Victims of the recent mob attack in Mangun community, Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State, have been laid to rest at the Hayi Muslim Cemetery on Saturday evening under heavy security presence.
The deceased—men, women, and children—were residents of Basawa-Anguwan Rimi in Zaria Local Government Area of Kaduna State. They were en route to Qua’an Pan LGA to attend a wedding when they were ambushed and killed.
Religious leaders in Mangu disclosed that the decision to bury the victims in Plateau was made with the consent of their families to avoid escalating tensions in their home communities.
During the funeral, Sheikh Suleiman Haruna, who led the prayers, urged mourners to remain calm and accept the tragedy as the will of Allah. He also advised against taking the law into one’s own hands, assuring that justice would be served.
Governor Caleb Mutfwang condemned the attack in strong terms and directed security agencies to identify and apprehend those behind the heinous act.
