The Lagos State Police Command on Thursday said investigations into the explosion reported in the Mushin area of the state have confirmed that the incident was caused by a mechanical failure and not by any explosive device or criminal activity.

The command said extensive forensic and technical examinations carried out after the incident found no evidence linking the explosion to terrorism, sabotage or the use of improvised explosive devices.

The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, disclosed in a statement that investigators found no traces of explosive materials, detonators, explosive residues or other indicators typically associated with bomb attacks.

Adebisi stated: “Technical findings revealed no traces of explosive materials, detonators, initiation systems, explosive residues, or blast characteristics ordinarily associated with explosive attacks.

“Investigation established that the incident resulted from the catastrophic failure of a pressurized mechanical component outside the vehicle.

“This failure generated a sudden release of energy which caused the shattering of the vehicle’s front passenger side glass panels and resulted in minor injuries to the occupant.”

Adebisi added that the absence of blast patterns and other forensic indicators associated with explosives further supported police’s conclusion.

“Based on these findings, the incident has been professionally classified as a Mechanical Explosion,” the police spokesperson said.
