Music star, D’banj, arrested for diverting empowerment funds

Ace Nigerian singer, Oladapo Oyebanjo, popularly known as D’banj, has been reportedly arrested by the operatives of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) over fraud allegations.

It was gathered that D’banj was arrested by ICPC operatives for allegedly diverting some funds for the N-Power project, an empowerment programme set up by President Muhammadu Buhari in June 2016 to address youth unemployment and increase social development in the country.

He was alleged to have connived with some government officials to introduce ghost beneficiaries into the payroll of the funds before the monies were later traced to accounts associated with the singer.

It was learned that the famous singer, who had failed to honour his summons for months, surrendered himself at the ICPC headquarters in Abuja, where he was reportedly detained on Tuesday.

His plea for administrative bail was also said to have been rejected by the ICPC officials who reportedly said the musician could not be trusted to attend his trial if released on bail.

Meanwhile, the ICPC has yet to speak on the development as of the time of filing this report.
