Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, has resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing the need for clearer direction and more effective governance amid ongoing crises within the party.
In a letter dated December 29, 2025, and addressed to the PDP Ward Chairman of Ampang West Ward in Mangu Local Government Area, Mutfwang said his resignation took effect immediately.
He thanked the party for giving him the opportunity to contest elections and acknowledged the backing he received from leaders and supporters.
He noted that current political realities and his commitment to purposeful leadership made it necessary to seek another platform.
Although he did not list specific complaints, sources within the party link his exit to prolonged internal conflicts, leadership disputes and uncertainty affecting the PDP at the national level.
Mutfwang has yet to announce his next political move, but political observers in Plateau suggest the All Progressives Congress (APC) may be a likely destination as alignments continue ahead of the 2027 elections.
The development follows recent remarks by APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, who hinted that a PDP governor was set to defect — a comment now seen as referring to Mutfwang.
His departure is expected to influence political dynamics in Plateau State and could have wider implications for party strength across the North-Central region.
