The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has cautioned Nigerians against using certain Dove-branded cosmetic products, recently banned by the European Union due to potential health risks.
In a public alert released on Saturday titled “Alert on the Ban of Dove Hand and Deodorant Soap due to Butylphenyl Methylpropional Contamination,” NAFDAC revealed that the affected products contain a harmful chemical substance known as 2-(4-tert-butylbenzyl) propanaldehyde.
This compound has been linked to adverse effects such as skin irritation and possible harm to unborn children.

The listed products include dove exfoliating hand soap (barcode: 8710447439227) dove feo go fresh 50ml (batch No: 9212174), dove invisible dry 50ml (batch No: 9183646) and dove men + care silver control spray 150ml (batch No: 62867LD).
According to NAFDAC, these products are not registered in its database, and their importation is prohibited in Nigeria.
The agency emphasized that soap imports are on the nation’s restricted list and are also ineligible for foreign exchange access.
NAFDAC has advised importers, distributors, and retailers to avoid bringing the affected products into the country and to stop any ongoing distribution or sales.
Consumers in possession of the products are urged to discontinue use immediately and submit any remaining stock to the nearest NAFDAC office.
Reaffirming its commitment to safeguarding public health, the agency also encouraged individuals to report any adverse reactions linked to cosmetic products through its official channels.
