NAFDAC cracks down on unregistered cosmetics at Lagos trade fair

Several cosmetic dealers at the Trade Fair Complex in Ojo, Lagos State, are facing regulatory action after the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) discovered suspected unregistered products at their business premises.

The agency said its Investigation and Enforcement Directorate, Cosmetics Division, conducted the enforcement operation on August 26 and 27, 2026, as part of efforts to prevent the circulation of cosmetics that have not received the required regulatory approval.

NAFDAC disclosed the development in a statement posted on its X account on Saturday.

Following the discovery, officials sealed the affected outlets and placed NAFDAC HOLD labels on their premises pending the outcome of further investigations.

The agency also took samples of the suspected products for laboratory and regulatory assessment.

Business owners and operators whose premises were affected were issued invitation letters to appear before NAFDAC for questioning and further regulatory proceedings.

Some of the businesses sealed during the operation include Vincentmo World, located opposite Bmeck Plaza at Private Plaza; Amazon City of Fragrance at Shops 37 and 38, Beauty Promise Land Plaza; and Aza-King Store Perfumes, opposite Fidelity Bank.

Other affected outlets are PP2 & Fragrance Int’l Ltd. – Design Perfumes & Cosmetics; No. D12 Fragrance Doctor Shop, Abia Plaza; and God & Obaino Fragrance Store, opposite Wave Plaza.

NAFDAC said the enforcement action extended to other shops and business premises within the Trade Fair Complex where suspected unregistered cosmetic products were found.

The agency’s action comes amid efforts to tighten regulatory control over cosmetics sold in Nigeria, particularly products whose registration status and safety standards have not been established.

The Trade Fair Complex, one of Lagos’ largest commercial centres along the Lagos-Badagry Expressway, hosts numerous businesses dealing in imported and locally sourced consumer products, including perfumes and cosmetics.

NAFDAC said the enforcement exercise was intended to ensure that cosmetic products available to consumers comply with the country’s registration, safety and quality requirements.
