NAFDAC flags male enhancement product for safety risks

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has announced a voluntary recall of all batches of the male enhancement dietary supplement MR.7 SUPER 700000 capsules due to serious safety concerns.

In a notice posted on its X account on Monday, the agency said the recall followed findings by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), which discovered that the product contains undeclared active ingredients.

According to NAFDAC, laboratory analysis revealed the presence of Sildenafil and Tadalafil—phosphodiesterase (PDE-5) inhibitors commonly used in approved medications for the treatment of erectile dysfunction.

The agency explained that the undisclosed presence of these substances makes the product an unapproved drug, as its safety and effectiveness have not been properly established.

“MR.7 SUPER 700000 capsules are marketed online as a dietary supplement for male enhancement. Products containing sildenafil or tadalafil cannot be marketed as dietary supplements and may pose serious health risks,” NAFDAC stated.

It further warned that the hidden ingredients could interact dangerously with nitrate-based prescription medicines such as Nitroglycerin, potentially causing a severe and life-threatening drop in blood pressure.

NAFDAC said men suffering from conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, high cholesterol or heart disease—particularly those taking nitrates—are at greater risk of experiencing harmful effects from the product.

The agency advised members of the public to immediately stop using or selling the capsules and return any remaining stock to the nearest NAFDAC office.

Consumers were also encouraged to report adverse reactions or suspicious products through the agency’s e-reporting platforms, the Med-Safety mobile app, or via its official email channels.

NAFDAC reaffirmed its commitment to protecting public health through continuous monitoring and regulation of medicines, medical devices and other products circulating in Nigeria.
