Justice Simon Amobeda of the Federal High Court in Kano has postponed the sentencing of popular TikTok personality, Murja Ibrahimi Kunya, to May 20, 2025.
Murja is standing trial on a one-count charge filed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for allegedly abusing the Nigerian currency. She is accused of spraying and dancing on N400,000 during a party at the Tahir Guest Palace Hotel in December 2024.
She has already pleaded guilty to the charge.
However, during Tuesday’s proceedings, the prosecution counsel, Musa Isa, sought to amend the charge despite the court being scheduled to deliver judgment.
This move was contested by Murja’s lawyer, Abubakar Saka, who argued that the amendment could delay justice and requested more time for his client to understand the revised charge.
Justice Amobeda granted the prosecution’s application and adjourned the case to May 20 for further proceedings.
Murja was allowed to remain in the custody of her legal team under an existing agreement, ensuring her presence at the next court session.
