Justice S. M. Shuaibu of the Federal High Court sitting in Kano has convicted and sentenced Kannywood actress Saadatu Mohammed Inuwa, popularly known as Samha, to six months’ imprisonment for abusing and mutilating the naira.

The actress was arraigned on a one-count charge bordering on currency mutilation, an offence that violates provisions of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Act, 2007.

According to the charge, Inuwa tampered with a ₦1,000 note in 2022 within the court’s jurisdiction by soiling the currency, an act considered unlawful under Section 21(1) of the Act.

She pleaded guilty when the charge was read in court. Following her plea, prosecuting counsel Musa Isah reviewed the facts and urged the court to convict and sentence her accordingly.

Inuwa appealed for leniency, telling the court she was a first-time offender and expressed remorse for her actions.

Delivering judgment, Justice Shuaibu sentenced her to six months in prison, with the option of paying a ₦200,000 fine instead of serving the jail term.
