The Nasarawa State House of Assembly has passed two significant bills aimed at boosting agriculture and regulating inland water transportation within the state.
The first, “A Bill to Repeal the Nasarawa Agricultural Development Programme Edict No. 13 of 1997 and to Establish the Nasarawa State Agricultural Development Programme (ADP)”, is intended to modernize the state’s agricultural framework.
The law is expected to enhance food security, generate revenue, create jobs, and raise living standards.
The second, “A Bill to Establish the Nasarawa State Inland Waterways Regulation Agency”, seeks to regulate the movement of goods and passengers across the state’s rivers and water bodies.

The bill aims to ensure safer transportation, improve logistics, and drive economic growth through water-based commerce.
Speaker of the House, Dr. Danladi Jatau, announced the passage of both bills during Wednesday’s plenary in Lafia. He commended lawmakers for their input and emphasized the bills’ potential to positively impact the lives of Nasarawa residents.
Dr. Jatau instructed the Clerk of the House to prepare clean copies of the bills for submission to Governor Abdullahi Sule for assent.
Earlier, the Majority Leader, Mr. Suleiman Azara, moved the motions for the bills to be read a third time, with support from the Minority Leader, Mr. Luka Zhekaba.
