Nasarawa governor sacks 6 commissioners in cabinet reshuffle

Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule has relieved six commissioners of their appointments as part of a minor cabinet reshuffle aimed at strengthening his administration.

The Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Dr Labaran Magaji, announced the development while briefing newsmen after the State Executive Council meeting on Wednesday, July 22, 2026.

Magaji said the affected commissioners were those in charge of the Ministries of Works, Women Affairs, Information, Lands, Science and Technology, as well as Security and Sundry Matters.

Magaji said the affected commissioners were directed to step aside to pave the way for fresh ideas and to strengthen governance in the remaining months of the administration.

The SSG said the decision was not a reflection of poor performance, as the council acknowledged the commitment, efficiency and hard work of the commissioners during their service.

“The government appreciates their contributions. The adjustment is intended to rejig the system, inject fresh energy into the administration and ensure that the mandate given to Governor Abdullahi Sule is fully delivered within the remaining period of this administration,” he said.

Magaji added that the former commissioners would continue to be part of the government and could be considered for other assignments in due course.
He said names of the new appointees would be announced through the appropriate channels.

The SSG also disclosed that the council deliberated extensively on strategies to enhance the state’s revenue by leveraging investments in the lithium sector.

He said the discussion followed the recent inauguration of one of Africa’s largest lithium processing plants in Nasarawa State by President Bola Tinubu, represented by Vice-President Kashim Shettima.

Magaji said the government was working on measures to maximise the economic benefits of the growing lithium processing industry in the state, adding that details of the decisions reached would be made public at the appropriate time.
