The unions had earlier issued a seven-day ultimatum over unresolved welfare matters, including unjust disbursement of earned allowances, non-payment of outstanding allowances, and other unresolved labour issues.

According to the SSANU President, the extension follows a meeting held on September 19, 2025, with the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Abel Enitan, and other stakeholders, including representatives of the NUC and the Ministry of Labour.

Although the government set up a joint consultative committee to address the unions’ grievances, the unions said no concrete resolutions had been reached.

JAC stated that the two-week extension, effective Tuesday, gives the government a final opportunity to address their demands before they proceed with a series of nationwide industrial actions.
