Natasha: Ijaw youths condemn calls for Akpabio’s removal

The Ijaw Youths Network (IYN) has condemned calls for the impeachment of Senate President Godswill Akpabio over the sexual harassment allegation against him by the senator representing Kogi Central, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.

The group described any impeachment moves against Akpabio as unnecessary, stressing that some individuals are working round the clock to ignite instability in the Senate with the allegations.

The IYN said this in a statement on Thursday, March 6, 2025.

It said: “We are constrained to vehemently condemn the unnecessary calls for the impeachment of the Senate President by paid agents motivated by interests other than patriotism.

“A willful attempt to foment instability in the Senate cannot be the right way to approach any controversy. We are against it.”

The IYN called for transparency and objectivity in the handling of the matter, saying it has implicit confidence in the leadership abilities of Akpabio.

The group also urged Nigerians not to be “deceived into believing the conspiracy”, and the allegations against Akpabio before the matter was resolved.

The Ijaw youths enjoined Akpabio, a former Minister of Nigeria Delta Affairs, to be resolute and focused on his responsibilities to the country.

The IYN added: “We know that as Senate President, Akpabio has access to any Senator and does not need to make such a move in the presence of Natasha’s husband who happens to be his friend.

“We urge Nigerians to avoid vilification of the Senate President even before the conclusion of the ongoing investigation.

“We have confidence in his ability to make the right legislative decisions in the interest of the Niger Delta and indeed Nigeria.”
