National grid collapses for second time in 24 hours

The national electricity grid has collapsed for the second time in 24 hours, leading to a nationwide blackout.

Electricity distribution companies (DisCos) announced the grid collapse in separate statements on Tuesday, October 15, 2024.

The companies disclosed that the grid collapsed at about 9:17 a.m. on Tuesday.

The national grid collapsed at about 6 p.m. on Monday, October 14.

Abuja DisCo restores power after national grid collapse

“Please be informed that we experienced another system outage today 15/10/24 at 09:17hrs affecting supply within our network,” Ikeja Electric stated.

The DisCo added that it is collaborating with its critical stakeholders to restore power supply.

On its part, Eko DisCo said: “Kindly be informed there was a system collapse at 09:17hrs which has resulted in a loss of power supply across our network.

“We are currently working with our partners as we hope for speedy restoration of the grid. We will keep you updated as soon as power supply is restored.”
