NDC leaders resolve party dispute as Obi, Dickson hold closed-door meeting in Abuja

The leadership of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has moved to strengthen internal unity following a closed-door meeting between the party’s 2027 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and the national leader, Seriake Dickson.

Dickson disclosed in a statement issued on Friday that he hosted Obi and other senior NDC leaders for a meeting that lasted about three hours, during which they reviewed the activities of the party and addressed issues that had recently generated concerns among members.

According to him, all the issues discussed were amicably resolved, with the leaders reaffirming their commitment to the party’s broader objective of winning future elections and providing an alternative to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC)-led administration.

Dickson noted that although the party leadership had always been united on the larger goal of rescuing Nigeria from what they described as misgovernance, some issues had emerged in recent times, adding that agreements had been reached on how such matters would be handled going forward.

The senator representing Bayelsa West also appealed to NDC members to refrain from internal disputes, name-calling, and unnecessary bickering, urging them instead to focus on the party’s mission and shared vision.

Dickson stated: “I want to use this opportunity again to call on all members of our party to stop the bickering and name-calling and focus on the bigger picture.

“Both His Excellency Peter Obi and I, as well as other leaders and stakeholders of our party, will continue to consult and engage with one another to address and resolve concerns, strengthen the unity and cohesion of our party, and ensure that we remain focused on our shared mission of rescuing Nigeria and building a better future for all.”
