The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has intercepted consignments of the dangerous stimulant Captagon and other illicit drugs in a sweeping nationwide crackdown spanning multiple states.
The agency confirmed the seizure of 10,000 pills of Captagon in Kwara State, nearly five years after its first interception of the substance at the Apapa seaport in Lagos. The drug, linked to extremist groups including Islamic State in Iraq and Syria, is known for its ability to suppress fear and fatigue.
According to NDLEA spokesman Femi Babafemi, the consignment was discovered along Bode Saadu road during a routine patrol, leading to the arrest of a suspect.
In a separate operation in Oyo State, operatives intercepted a commercial bus and arrested a 33-year-old businessman, who later excreted 45 wraps of cocaine weighing over 1kg after ingesting the substance to evade airport detection.
Further seizures were recorded across the country, including 1.1 million opioid pills intercepted in Edo State and large quantities of cannabis recovered in Lagos, Ekiti, and Bauchi states.
NDLEA Chairman, Mohamed Buba Marwa, commended officers for the coordinated operations, noting that the agency remains committed to dismantling drug trafficking networks nationwide.
