The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Kano State Command, on Thursday handed over 450,000 Pregabalin capsules to the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) for further investigation.
The state commander of NDLEA, Mr. Abubakar Idris-Ahmad, disclosed this during the handover ceremony in Kano, explaining that the drugs, concealed in a van and packed in 60 cartons, were intercepted along the Kano–Hadejia Road after no documentation or proof of ownership was provided.
He noted that the transfer was in line with the Memorandum of Understanding signed between NDLEA and NAFDAC on November 24, 2024, to strengthen collaboration in tackling the circulation of unregistered pharmaceuticals.
Receiving the consignment, NAFDAC State Coordinator, Mr. Kassim Idrissa-Ibrahim, who represented the Director-General, Prof. Christiana Adeyeye, commended NDLEA for the seizure, describing it as a clear demonstration of inter-agency cooperation.
Adeyeye said the action prevented harmful substances from reaching unsuspecting Nigerians, stressing that such synergy was crucial in combating drug abuse and misuse. She assured that NAFDAC would carry out forensic analysis and take appropriate regulatory and legal measures in line with its mandate.
Both agencies reaffirmed their commitment to disrupting the illicit distribution of controlled pharmaceuticals and safeguarding public health.
