Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency have intercepted 43,980 capsules of tramadol concealed inside two large vehicle fuel tanks during an operation in Taraba State.
The agency disclosed the seizure in a statement issued on Sunday by its Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi.
According to the NDLEA, the suspect allegedly travelled to Onitsha, Anambra State, where he procured the fuel tanks solely to conceal and transport the illicit drugs.
The agency said the suspect successfully conveyed the consignment through multiple security checkpoints before he was intercepted by NDLEA operatives in the Wukari area of Taraba State.
A search of the fuel tanks led to the discovery of the tramadol capsules carefully hidden inside the compartments.
Babafemi described the operation as another major breakthrough in the agency’s efforts to dismantle drug trafficking networks across the country.
He noted that the suspect’s operation came to an end after NDLEA officers uncovered the concealed drugs and arrested him.
The anti-narcotics agency reiterated its commitment to intensifying operations against traffickers employing increasingly sophisticated methods to transport illicit substances across Nigeria.
