NDLEA raids BUK, arrests six, dismantles drug joints in Kano

Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Kano Strategic Command, have arrested six suspects and dismantled several illicit drug joints during a raid around the old site of Bayero University Kano.

The operation, carried out on May 4 under a special enforcement drive tagged “Operation Sharar Mafaka,” followed a formal complaint from the university management over rising drug-related activities within and around the campus.

According to the command, the suspects were identified as trespassers allegedly involved in the sale and consumption of illicit substances within parts of the university environment and nearby areas.

The NDLEA said items linked to the illegal activities were recovered during the raid and subsequently destroyed to prevent further use.

Speaking on the operation, the Kano Strategic Commander, CN DY Lawal, said the exercise reflects the agency’s determination to rid educational institutions of drug-related threats.

“This action demonstrates our commitment to ensuring a drug-free environment where students, staff and their families can live and work in safety,” he said, adding that the command would sustain efforts to dismantle drug hubs across the state.

The agency noted that the success of the raid was largely due to collaboration with the university authorities, whose report enabled a swift and targeted response.

The NDLEA also warned individuals using public and educational facilities for drug activities to desist, stressing that such actions would not be tolerated.

It urged members of the public and institutions to continue providing useful information to help identify and eliminate remaining drug hotspots.
