Barely six months after a similar drug bust involving Thai sailors, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intercepted another cocaine shipment at Lagos’ Apapa seaport.
The MV Nord Bosporus, arriving from Santos, Brazil, was found carrying 20 kilograms of cocaine hidden under its cargo.
NDLEA operatives arrested the vessel’s master, Captain Quino Eugene Corpus, and 19 Filipino crew members, filing for a court order to detain the suspects and the ship.
Justice Musa Kakaki of the Federal High Court granted a 14-day detention order pending further investigation.
NDLEA Chairman Brig Gen Mohamed Buba Marwa (rtd) lauded the agency’s officers for their vigilance, warning international drug cartels and local collaborators that Nigeria will not be a foothold for illicit drug trade.
“Our intelligence network, collaboration with international partners, and the dedication of our officers are steps ahead of your nefarious activities,” he said.
This marks another high-profile seizure after the 2025 conviction of 10 Thai sailors who trafficked 32.9 kilograms of cocaine into Nigeria.
