NDLEA seizes 64 bags of cannabis hidden in cement truck in Kano

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intercepted 64 bags of cannabis concealed inside a cement-laden trailer along the Kano–Zaria Road in Kano.

According to a statement issued on Friday by the agency’s Kano Strategic Command Public Relations Officer, Assistant Superintendent of Narcotics Sadiq Maigatari, the seizure was made on February 2, 2026, by operatives from the Kiru Area Command following intelligence-led surveillance and monitoring of the vehicle.

The trailer, reportedly loaded with cement from Dangote Cement, had departed Obajana in Kogi State and was heading to Mubi in Adamawa State when officers stopped it along the route and discovered the hidden consignment.

The driver was immediately arrested and remains in NDLEA custody as investigations continue.

State Commander D.Y. Lawal said the recovery resulted from detailed intelligence gathering and the vigilance of officers.

He noted that the drugs were cleverly concealed within legitimate cargo and were suspected to be intended for distribution in Kano ahead of the Ramadan period, warning that the command would not allow traffickers to threaten public safety.

Acting on directives from the agency’s Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Mohamed Buba Marwa, the command said it would step up patrols, strengthen checkpoints and sustain intelligence-driven operations across the state.

It added that efforts were underway to identify and arrest other members of the trafficking network, with those found culpable to face prosecution.

The agency also urged residents to stay alert and report suspicious movements or information related to drug trafficking through official channels, stressing that community cooperation remains vital to maintaining peace and security.
