The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has denied reports alleging that the Federal Government has halted the payment of students’ upkeep allowances under its loan scheme.

The agency described the claims, including a statement falsely attributed to it, as misleading and entirely untrue.

NELFUND’s Director of Strategic Communications, Oseyemi Oluwatuyi, said the reports were deliberately circulated to create panic, confusion, and distrust among beneficiaries and the general public.

He further clarified that a widely shared newspaper front page linked to the claim was fabricated using artificial intelligence and does not represent any legitimate publication.

“The publications in circulation did not originate from NELFUND or any authorized government channel,” the statement noted.

The Fund advised students, stakeholders, and the public to ignore the misinformation and rely solely on verified updates from its official platforms and credible media sources.

NELFUND also warned against spreading unverified content, stressing that such actions could fuel misinformation and cause unnecessary anxiety among students and their families across the country.
