The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has received 147 Nigerian migrant returnees from Niamey in Niger as part of ongoing efforts to support citizens returning from abroad.
The returnees arrived at the Malam Aminu Kano International Airport in Kano on March 5, 2026, at about 12:19 p.m. local time aboard a flight operated by Sky Mali Airline.
In a statement released on Friday via its Kano Operations Office Facebook page, NEMA said the reception exercise was conducted in collaboration with several stakeholders, including the National Commission for Refugees Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons, the Nigerian Red Cross Society, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, among other partners.
The agency noted that the returnees were profiled on March 6 as part of the reintegration process.
According to NEMA, the group comprised 136 male adults, five female adults, three male children and three female children.
The agency said the operation was successfully carried out due to the cooperation and coordination among all participating organisations.
NEMA added that the joint efforts of the stakeholders ensured the reception and documentation process was conducted smoothly and without incident.
The development comes after a similar evacuation exercise in 2025, when NEMA received 148 Nigerians returning from Sudan at the same airport aboard a chartered flight operated by Tarco Aviation.
At the time, the returnees were transported to a temporary facility for profiling and documentation by relevant agencies before further reintegration support.
