The death toll from last week’s devastating floods in Nepal has risen to 1,127.
Nepalese police confirmed the latest figures on Wednesday, September 2, 226, saying only 95 of the recovered bodies had been handed over to affected families on Wednesday morning.
One week after the disaster, the full scale of the devastation remains unclear, with more than 4,600 people reported missing.
The catastrophic flash flood, carrying water, mud, ice, and debris, swept away everything in its path across the border region.
Experts believe a massive glacier collapse on the Tibetan side triggered the disaster.

Most recovered bodies have not been identified, with rescuers often finding only bone fragments or other human remains.
Authorities said all recovered remains could be identified through DNA analysis.
The World Health Organization (WHO) has warned of the risk of disease outbreaks in affected areas.
The WHO said displaced people living in cramped conditions, combined with flooding, and stagnant water, could increase the spread of infectious diseases.
