NFF crisis: Amun accuses Gusau of shunning fact-finding panel

Former Nigeria international coach Fanny Amun has alleged that Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) President Ibrahim Gusau refused to appear before the fact-finding committee he set up to investigate the declining fortunes of the country’s national teams.

Amun, who chaired the committee, disclosed this during an interview on the Sports Salsa radio programme, saying Gusau declined an invitation to appear before the panel and respond to issues raised during its proceedings.

“He refused to come,” Amun said when asked about the committee’s interaction with the NFF president.

The former Golden Eaglets coach said the committee uncovered concerns over the non-payment of allowances and bonuses owed to national team players and coaches, while some administrative officials allegedly received their full estacode payments.

The committee also reportedly received allegations that financial considerations influenced the appointment of coaches to some national teams.

Gusau had inaugurated the fact-finding committee to investigate the factors responsible for the poor performances of Nigeria’s national teams, particularly the Super Falcons.

The panel was set up after the Super Falcons suffered a historic setback by failing to qualify for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil.

The 10-time African champions lost 2-1 to South Africa’s Banyana Banyana in the qualification playoff, ending Nigeria’s record of appearing at every edition of the Women’s World Cup since the tournament began in 1991.

Amun’s disclosure comes amid growing calls for accountability and reforms within the administration of Nigerian football.
