NFF mulls $100,000 monthly salary for Chelle amid contract talks

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is reportedly weighing a revised contract that would see Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle earn up to $100,000 per month, as negotiations continue between both parties.

A source at the NFF revealed that officials are open to adjusting Chelle’s current deal and accommodating some of his demands, adding that the federation has set $100,000 monthly salary for the Malian tactician.

Chelle, who currently earns $50,000 per month, is said to have requested a new contract valued at $130,000 monthly.

According to him, the proposed increase is intended to cover both his salary and the wages of his technical crew.

The source told PUNCH: “We are willing to review his contract and meet some of his conditions.

“There is a strong desire from both the Federal Government and the NFF to maintain continuity, but we cannot exceed $100,000 monthly. If he adjusts his demands, we want him to stay.”

The source added that the federation may begin the search for a new foreign coach if Chelle insists on his proposed figure.

It was also gathered that appointing a local coach is not being considered should talks break down.

NFF President Ibrahim Gusau and Secretary General Mohammed Sanusi had yet to speak on the development.

Chelle has previously justified his demand for improved pay, noting that it would enhance his working conditions and enable him to adequately cater for his backroom staff.

Despite being linked with interest from clubs such as Olympique Marseille and some African national teams, the coach has dismissed speculation about a possible exit, maintaining his commitment to Nigeria.

Speaking on the Histoires de Foot Podcast, Chelle stated that he still has one year left on his contract and remains focused on his duties, including preparing the squad for upcoming matches.

He is also expected to announce his team list for Nigeria’s next set of international friendlies during the forthcoming FIFA window.
