NGE mourns Dotun Oladipo, hails his legacy in journalism

The Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE) has mourned the death of Dr. Samson Dotun Oladipo, describing him as a gentleman, distinguished journalist and great contributor to the development of Nigeria’s media industry.

Oladipo, a former newspaper editor and publisher of The Eagle Online, died on Tuesday at the age of 56.

In a statement signed by its President, Eze Anaba, and General Secretary, Onuoha Ukeh, on Wednesday, the NGE said Oladipo’s death was a major loss to his family, colleagues and the wider journalism community.

The Guild said Oladipo distinguished himself during his decades-long career through professionalism, courage, intellectual depth and commitment to journalism and nation-building.

According to the NGE, Oladipo was deeply involved in the growth of digital journalism and remained committed to strengthening the Nigerian media landscape through his work as an online publisher.

The Guild also described him as a committed member whose contributions helped promote professional solidarity, ethical journalism and responsible media practice.

“Dr. Oladipo was not merely a media practitioner but also a respected colleague, mentor and contributor to the continuing evolution of the Nigerian media landscape,” the statement said.

The NGE said the late journalist left behind a legacy of hard work, professional excellence, courage and service that would continue to inspire those who knew and worked with him.

It extended its condolences to Oladipo’s immediate family, friends, colleagues and associates, praying that God would grant them the strength to bear the loss.

The Guild also prayed for the repose of his soul, saying his contributions to journalism would endure beyond his lifetime.
