NGX market cap falls N812bn as ASI drops 0.52% in one week

The Nigerian Exchange Limited (NGX) All-Share Index and market capitalisation declined by 0.52 per cent and 0.50 per cent, respectively, closing the week at 250,808.27 points and N162.843 trillion.

The figures were lower than the previous week’s close of 252,113.41 points and N163.655 trillion.

Investors lost N812 billion in market value during the week under review.

All other indices closed lower, except for the NGX Main Board, NGX Insurance, NGX Oil & Gas, and NGX Growth indices, which appreciated by 0.08 per cent, 0.61 per cent, 0.05 per cent, and 1.85 per cent, respectively.

The NGX Commodity index closed flat.

The market opened for four trading days during the week, as the Federal Government declared Thursday a public holiday to mark the Independence Day celebration.

Meanwhile, a total turnover of 3.166 billion shares worth N155.023 billion in 206,662 transactions was traded this week by investors on the floor of the Exchange.

This contrasted to a total of 4.689 billion shares valued at N240.824 billion that exchanged hands in the previous week in 261,198 deals.

The Financial Services Industry led the activity chart with 1.944 billion shares valued at N77.733 billion traded in 92,035 deals.

This contributed 61.41 per cent and 50.14 per cent to the total equity turnover volume and value respectively.

The Investment Industry followed with 409.484 million shares worth N5.400 billion in 1,444 deals.

The third place was the ICT Industry, with a turnover of 231.705 million shares worth N9.606 billion in 24,133 transactions.

Trading in the top three equities – Fidelity Bank Plc, VFD Group Plc, and Access Holdings Plc – accounted for 1.343 billion shares worth N27.580 billion in 15,771 deals.

This contributed 42.42 per cent and 17.79 per cent to the total equity turnover volume and value respectively.

Stock market sheds N262bn amid profit-taking

44 equities appreciated in price during the week, lower than 61 equities in the previous week.

37 equities depreciated in price, higher than the 32 recorded in the previous week, while 65 equities remained unchanged, compared to 63 in the previous week.

Sovereign Trust, Etranzact, Learn Africa, PZ Cussons, and Fortis Global Insurance were the top five loseres, losing 30k, N1.50, 95k, N7.40, and 19k, respectively.

Conversely, ABC Transport, Critical Minerals Financing Corp, Livingtrust Mortgage Bank, VFD Group, and Computer Warehouse Group emerged as the top gainers for the week.

They grew by N2.30, N1.23, 85k, N2.30, N2.75, respectively.

The NGX notified trading licence holders and the investing public that additional 3.21 billion ordinary shares of 50k each of Guinea Insurance Plc were listed on the daily official list of the NGX on Monday, September 28.

An additional 3.68 billion ordinary shares of 50k each of Regency Alliance Insurance Plc were also listed on the daily official list of NGX on September 28.

Meanwhile, new and supplementary units of Federal Government bonds issued in September were listed on the NGX on Tuesday, September 29.

An additional 1.11 billion ordinary shares of 50k each of The Initiates Plc were listed on the daily official list of the NGX on Wednesday, September 30.
