The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) in Kano State has reported receiving 172 complaints of alleged human rights violations in September 2025.
The NHRC State Coordinator, Alhaji Shehu Abdullahi, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Monday. He noted that 122 of the complaints have been addressed, while 50 cases remain pending.
Abdullahi said the majority of the complaints, 130 cases, concerned the rights of children and women. He added that 32 cases related to abandonment of family responsibilities and domestic violence, while 10 cases involved economic, cultural, labor, and physical rights. He also highlighted that the commission had mediated in marital disputes and urged couples to exercise patience and manage their responsibilities with humility.
The NHRC had previously reported 130 complaints in March 2024, of which 111 were resolved and 19 remained pending. At that time, 86 cases involved children, women, and gender rights, 18 cases concerned family abandonment and domestic violence, and 26 cases addressed labor rights and other issues.
The commission continues to serve as a platform for redressing human rights violations and promoting mediation in personal and societal disputes.
