The Niger State chapter of the All Progressive Congress (APC) has forwarded the names of Hon. Umar Mohammed Bago and Yakubu Garba as governorship and deputy candidates for the 2023 gubernatorial election in the state to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The APC chairman in Niger State, Hon. Haliru Zakari Jikantoro, made this known via a statement issued by the party’s Publicity Secretary, Musa D. Sarkindaji, on Monday.
Com. Garba is currently the state chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC).
Jikantoro stated that the party selected Garba as the running of Bago after wide consultations with critical stakeholders in the state.

The chairman further described the decision as “good thinking, good combination and good products to the state”, adding that the party took the decision based on the track records of Garba within the confines of state civil service.
“The party made wider consultation with the critical Stakeholders to arrive at bringing in the State Chairman of National Labour Congress (NLC) Yakubu Garba as the deputy. The decision is in line with the track records of Comrade Yakubu Garba within the confines of state civil service,” he noted.
Jikantoro, however, called on APC members in Niger State to accord the party and the governorship candidates maximum acceptability in order to move the state forward.
