Niger APC chairman resigns

The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Niger State, Zakari Jikantoro, has resigned from his position.

Jikantoro announced his resignation in Minna, the Niger State capital, on Friday, after briefing the state party executive members of the resolutions taken at the National Executive Council (NEC) in Abuja on Thursday, August 3, 2023.

Jikantoro said his decision to resign as the chairman of the party was voluntarily and in the best interest of the party as well as adding value to the party.

He said his resignation has nothing to do with what transpired at the NEC meeting.

He said: “I, on my own humbly and voluntarily wish to resign my position as the chairman of APC in Niger.

“This is the reason why I invite the media to come and cover the meeting because of my singular intention to resign my position.

“I don’t have issues with my colleagues. We are seated here, you can see the special advisers on political to the governor here seated.

“I have made wild range of consultations before taking this decision. It is by way of adding value to the party.

“So, there is no crisis like people will think, no fighting, it is just a voluntary resignation.”

Jikantoro stated that the Zonal APC Chairman, Aminu Bobi, would act as the party chairman until a substantive chairman is elected.

Speaking, Bobi promised to strengthen and revive the party.

On his part, the Special Adviser, Political to the Governor, Nma Kolo, said there was no division between the chairman and the party.

Kolo added that the party chairman summoned a meeting with officials of state government where he broke the news of his resignation.

He said after much deliberation, the governor later accepted his resignation, adding that his resignation would add value to the APC and improve the party.
