Nigeria beat Egypt to win bronze at AFCON 2025

The Super Eagles of Nigeria secured the bronze medal at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) after edging the Pharaohs of Egypt 4-2 on penalties in a tightly contested third-place playoff in Casablanca on Saturday.

The encounter at the Stade Mohammed V ended goalless at the end of regulation time, with both sides failing to break the deadlock during the 90 minutes.

The match was eventually decided from the spot, where Nigeria held their nerve.

Goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali emerged as the hero of the shootout, producing crucial saves against Mohamed Salah and Oumar Marmoush to seal victory for the Super Eagles.

The win handed Nigeria their ninth third-place finish in AFCON history and preserved their flawless record in bronze medal matches at the continental tournament.
