The Nigeria Police Force has announced that it will resume enforcement of the Tinted Glass Permit policy from January 2, 2026, following a review of security concerns linked to vehicles with unauthorized tinted glass.
The decision comes while a related matter is still pending in court.
In a statement, the Force clarified that at no point did the court prevent it from enforcing the law on tinted glass.
However, enforcement was previously suspended to give motorists time to regularize their documentation without pressure.
Recent trends, the Police noted, show a rise in criminal activities facilitated by vehicles fitted with illegal tinted glass, including armed robbery, kidnapping, and other violent crimes.
The resumption of enforcement is intended as a proactive measure to enhance public safety.
Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD, NPM, assured the public that enforcement will be conducted professionally and in full compliance with the law, with respect for citizens’ rights. He emphasised the Force’s commitment to public safety and collaboration with stakeholders to maintain security across the country.
Motorists are urged to apply for Tinted Glass Permits through approved channels and ensure their vehicles meet legal requirements.
