The presidential candidate of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, has won the presidential election in Katsina State.
President Muhammadu Buhari hails from Daura in Katsina State.
The INEC Returning Officer in the state, Prof. Mua’zu Abubakar Gusau, said Atiku polled 489,045 votes to defeat Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who garnered 482,283 votes.
Rabiu Kwankwaso of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) came third with 69,386 votes, followed by Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP) who got 6,376 votes.
Atiku won 13 out of 34 LGAs of Katsina State with Tinubu winning 21 LGAs.

The former Vice President won Batsari, Mashi, Kurfi, Batagarawa, Dutsinma, Kusada, Mani, Kankia, Kankara, Bakori, Jibia, Katsina, and Safana LGAs and secured significant votes in the other LGAs of Katsina State.
The total number of registered voters in the state was 3,516,719 but 1,097,663 were accredited to vote.
The INEC Returning Officer added that elections were cancelled in some polling units in Baure, Danmusa, Dutsinma, Funtua, Kafur, Kankara, Katsina, Kurfi, Kusada, Mai’adua, Malumfashi, Mashi, Sabuwa, and Safana LGAs.
Gusau hinged the cancellation on violence, insecurity, resistance, overvoting, and obstruction.
