The Chief of Operations at Naval Headquarters, Rear Admiral Musa Katagum, has died following a brief illness.
Katagum, a senior officer of the Nigerian Navy, previously served at Defence Headquarters and was also former Chief of Naval Intelligence before his recent appointment as Chief of Operations by the Chief of Naval Staff.
In his role, he oversaw key operational activities and contributed to strengthening Nigeria’s maritime security architecture.
Throughout his career, Katagum was regarded as a strategic leader who played a major role in shaping naval operations, enhancing intelligence capabilities and mentoring younger officers. His work helped improve operational readiness and safeguard Nigeria’s territorial waters.
News of his death has drawn tributes from across the Armed Forces, where colleagues described him as a disciplined officer and dedicated professional whose leadership left a lasting impact on the Navy.
Beyond his service record, he was remembered for his humility, commitment to personnel welfare and strong sense of duty.
