The immediate past Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa (rtd), has expressed confidence in the capability of Nigeria’s current security leadership to protect the nation, as he officially bowed out of active service after 39 years.
Delivering his valedictory remarks during a Pulling-Out Parade held in his honour on Friday in Abuja, Gen. Musa described the event as both emotional and historic, marking the end of nearly four decades of dedicated service to Nigeria’s peace and unity.
“This pulling-out parade is not just a ceremony; it signifies the end of a journey that has lasted 39 years and four months, and the beginning of a new chapter in my life.
“I am humbled by the privilege to have served our great nation, and I can proudly say Nigeria’s security is in capable hands,” he said.
The retired CDS expressed deep appreciation to President Bola Tinubu for the trust reposed in him to lead the Armed Forces, and congratulated his successor and other Service Chiefs, assuring them of his continued support.
He urged members of the Armed Forces to remain steadfast in loyalty, professionalism, and dedication to safeguarding the nation’s territorial integrity.
“To the men and women of our Armed Forces, you are the true heroes of this nation.
“I have witnessed your courage, resilience, and unwavering devotion to duty.
“Defeat is temporary, but victory is forever.
“Continue to believe in Nigeria—it is a nation worth fighting for,” he stated.
Gen. Musa paid special tribute to his wife, Ogogolilia, and their children—Kuwait, Yashinbobai, and Indi—for their sacrifices throughout his military career.
“My family has been my fortress and sanctuary.
“They endured my long absences, the anxiety, and the uncertainty.
“They are the unsung heroes of my service,” he said.
He also commended the collaboration among security agencies—including the Nigerian Police, DSS, NIA, and DIA—during his tenure, stressing that sustained inter-agency synergy remains key to national security.
“No single institution can win the fight against insecurity alone. We must continue to work together, pray for our troops, and support our security forces so that Nigeria can continue to grow and prosper,” he added.
The retired general appreciated the Nigerian people, particularly the youth, for their faith and prayers for a safer country, and thanked the media for its role in promoting national development.
“As I formally retire my uniform, I do so with pride and a clear conscience, knowing I have given my all in service to Nigeria.
“Though I retire from active duty today, I will never retire from my love for Nigeria.
“I remain a soldier at heart and a patriot committed to our Constitution and sovereignty,” Musa declared.
He concluded by offering thanks to God for divine protection throughout his career and pledged to continue contributing to national development in other capacities.
