NiMet forecasts 3-day rain, thunderstorm across Nigeria

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecast thunderstorms and rainfall across several parts of Nigeria from Thursday to Saturday, April 11, 2026.

In its weather outlook released on Wednesday, NiMet predicted moderate dust haze in parts of the northern region on Thursday, particularly in Borno, Yobe, Kano, Katsina, Zamfara, Jigawa, Kebbi, and Sokoto States.

The agency also predicted isolated thunderstorms with moderate rainfall later in the day across parts of Taraba, southern Bauchi, southern Kaduna, Adamawa, and Gombe states.

For the north central region, the agency forecast cloudy conditions with intervals of sunshine and possible morning thunderstorms in parts of Niger, Kwara, and Kogi States.

It added that isolated thunderstorms with light rainfall are expected later in the day across Nasarawa, Plateau, Kwara, Kogi, the Federal Capital Territory, and Benue States.

In the southern region, NiMet predicted cloudy skies with periods of sunshine and chances of morning thunderstorms accompanied by moderate rainfall in Oyo, Osun, Ekiti, Ogun, Ondo, Edo, Lagos, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Rivers, and Delta states.

Thunderstorms with moderate rains are expected across the region later in the day.

For Friday, the agency forecast moderate dust haze across the northern region, alongside possible morning thunderstorms with light rains in parts of Taraba and Adamawa States.

Later in the day, isolated thunderstorms with moderate rainfall are expected in Taraba, Bauchi, Kaduna, Adamawa, and Gombe States.

NiMet also predicted cloudy weather with intervals of sunshine in the north central region on Friday, with morning thunderstorms expected in parts of Nasarawa and Benue States, followed by widespread thunderstorms and moderate rainfall later in the day.

Similarly, the southern region is expected to experience cloudy conditions with intervals of sunshine and morning thunderstorms in parts of Edo, Ondo, Ogun, Lagos, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, and Delta States, with moderate rainfall anticipated across the region later in the day.

On Saturday, NiMet forecast slight dust haze in the northern region, while the north central region is expected to experience sunny skies with patches of clouds.

The agency added that the southern region will likely experience cloudy weather with intervals of sunshine and chances of morning thunderstorms in parts of Ondo, Ogun, and Lagos States, followed by thunderstorms and moderate rainfall across the region later in the day.
