NiMet predicts three days of sunshine, haziness nationwide

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has projected predominantly sunny and hazy weather conditions across the country from Sunday to Tuesday.

According to the agency’s weather outlook issued on Saturday in Abuja, the northern parts of Nigeria are expected to experience mostly sunny skies throughout the period, while hazy atmospheric conditions will prevail across the North-Central states.

NiMet also indicated that on Sunday, parts of Rivers, Bayelsa and Delta states may experience localised morning thunderstorms accompanied by light rainfall. Later in the day, isolated thunderstorms are expected in Rivers, Delta, Cross River, Akwa Ibom and Bayelsa states.

For Monday, the agency forecast continued sunshine across the northern region and hazy conditions in the North-Central zone. Southern states are expected to have cloudy skies in the morning, with isolated thunderstorms developing later in the day.

By Tuesday, sunny and hazy conditions are expected to persist in the North and North-Central regions, while the southern part of the country will experience cloudy mornings followed by isolated thunderstorms with moderate rainfall.

NiMet cautioned residents, particularly those with respiratory ailments, to take necessary precautions due to the presence of suspended dust particles in the atmosphere. Motorists were also advised to drive carefully during rainfall.

The agency further urged airline operators to obtain airport-specific weather information from NiMet to aid effective flight planning, and encouraged the general public to stay informed through its official weather updates.
