Nine died in auto crash on Katsina-Kano highway

A fatal road accident along the Katsina-Kano highway claimed the lives of nine people on Saturday, July 26, 2025.

According to eyewitness accounts, the victims—all believed to be residents of Dambatta Local Government Area in Kano State—were returning from a wedding ceremony in Katsina when the tragic incident occurred.

A local resident, Basiru Lawan, disclosed that four of the deceased were members of the same family.

“It’s a devastating loss. The entire community is in mourning,” he said.

Road crashes continue to claim lives across Nigeria, with poor road conditions and reckless driving often cited as major contributing factors.

Just recently, over 14 people were burnt to death in a separate accident, and two months ago, more than 20 athletes from Kano State lost their lives in another crash while traveling for a national competition.

As of the time of filing this report, neither the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) nor the Kano State Police Command has released an official statement regarding the latest tragedy.
