NLC protest disrupts Lagos flight, strands Air Peace passengers

A protest by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) disrupted flight operations at a Lagos airport on Tuesday, leaving passengers scheduled to travel with Air Peace stranded.

The protest, which began around 5am, resulted in the Zulu Terminal gate being locked, preventing passengers from accessing the terminal.

An Air Peace flight scheduled to depart Lagos at 6:30am was consequently unable to take off, leaving passengers waiting amid uncertainty over when operations would resume.

Some affected travellers expressed frustration over the disruption, saying the delay had affected their schedules.

One passenger told Daily Trust that the situation had disrupted his plans and that he was uncertain about when the flight would eventually depart.

Another passenger said she arrived at the airport early for the 6:30am flight but was left stranded without clear information on the resumption of operations.

A staff member of Air Peace confirmed the disruption but declined to comment on the reason for the protest.

“Yes, it’s true,” the staff member said.

However, an airport operator familiar with the development said the protest was aimed at enforcing the right of Air Peace employees to join a labour union.

Attempts to reach Air Peace through its customer care line were unsuccessful as calls were not connecting at the time of filing the report.

The protest has disrupted movement at the airport, with affected passengers awaiting further information on the resumption of flight operations.
