NNPC deploys over 1,000 new employees, says recruitment based on merit

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited has strengthened its commitment to merit-based recruitment and youth empowerment with the deployment of more than 1,000 young professionals into its workforce after the successful completion of a year-long internship programme.

The Group Chief Executive Officer of NNPC Limited, Bayo Ojulari, in a recent statement, said the deployment followed 12 months of intensive training, hands-on experience and rigorous performance evaluation designed to prepare the recruits for full-time roles within the company.

Describing the exercise as a significant milestone for the national oil company, Ojulari said the successful transition of the interns reflected NNPC Limite’s resolve to build a workforce driven by competence, integrity and performance.

He added that the stories shared by many of the recruits reaffirmed that the company’s recruitment process is based on merit rather than personal connections or regional considerations.

Ojulari noted that while the young professionals secured their initial placements through a competitive recruitment process, their permanent deployment was earned through consistent performance during the internship period.

He stated: “I listened to some of them share their recruitment stories, raw, unscripted, and real. Different paths, but the same door. And we opened it. That’s what NNPC Ltd stands for today: not who you know or where you’re from, but what you can do.

“Their offer letters got them in, but their work this past year kept them here. They proved themselves day after day, under real pressure, and that’s the standard we’re building. Talent. Hard work. Fairness.”

The NNPC boss urged the newly deployed employees to embrace innovation, contribute fresh ideas and actively participate in shaping the future of the company.

Ojulari also enjoined them to remember the opportunities they had received and extend similar support to others as they progress in their careers.

Ojulari said: “To the over 1,000 newly deployed: you are not just our future. You are our present. Our energy. Our proof. So don’t hesitate to lend your voice, share your opinions, and challenge the status quo. Own your development.

“But don’t forget the wait. Don’t forget the process. Because one day, when you’re sitting where I am, you’ll remember this moment, and you’ll open that same door for someone else.”
