The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has dismissed reports suggesting it is selling refinery equipment and scrap materials, describing such claims as false and deceptive.
In a statement issued by its Chief Corporate Communications Officer, Andy Odeh, the company said it has not authorised any individual or organisation to sell scrap metals, refinery components, or assets from its facilities.
NNPCL disclosed that it has received reports of individuals falsely posing as its representatives or agents, allegedly offering to facilitate the sale of refinery equipment. The company warned that such persons are unauthorised and are attempting to defraud unsuspecting members of the public.
It urged individuals, businesses, and industry stakeholders to ignore any such offers and exercise caution when approached with similar claims.
“For the avoidance of doubt, NNPC Limited is not conducting, nor has it authorised, any sale of scrap metals, equipment, or refinery components from any of its facilities,” the statement said.
The company added that any legitimate disposal of assets would follow established procedures and be publicly announced through its official communication channels, in line with regulatory requirements.
NNPCL also advised members of the public to report suspicious activities or fraudulent claims to relevant law enforcement agencies.
It reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, accountability, and the proper management of Nigeria’s energy assets.
