The Kano State chapter of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has expelled Abdulmumin Jibrin Kofa, the lawmaker representing Kiru/Bebeji Federal Constituency, over alleged anti-party activities and failure to pay mandatory party dues.
The state chairman of the party, Hashim Dungurawa, announced the expulsion while briefing journalists in Kano on Saturday.
Dungurawa accused Jibrin of repeatedly attacking the NNPP and its leadership in the media, saying his political relevance was largely tied to the Kwankwasiyya movement and the NNPP platform.
“If he was truly strong politically, he would have won his election under the APC, but he failed.
“It was through Kwankwasiyya and NNPP that he became a House of Reps member. Now he is deceiving himself thinking he is strong,” Dungurawa said.
He explained that a reconciliation committee had initially been set up after Jibrin’s remarks on Channels Television, but his subsequent statements and actions further undermined the party.
“Instead of dialogue, he went further to work against our interest, openly declaring loyalty outside the party.
“That is why we expelled him. He has no value to add,” he said.
Dungurawa also alleged that Jibrin defaulted in the payment of his financial obligations to the party, vowing that the NNPP would pursue legal action to recover the outstanding dues.
“We will drag him to court to recover what he owes.
“It is a constitutional requirement for every member to pay dues, but he has consistently failed to do so,” he said.
On speculation that Jibrin might return to the APC, the chairman maintained that such a move would not weaken the NNPP, stressing that the Kwankwasiyya movement under Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso remains intact.
