NNPP suffers another blow as Kano lawmaker resigns from party

The lawmaker representing Kano Municipal Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Engr. Sagir Ibrahim Koki, has announced his resignation from the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), citing unresolved leadership crises within the party.

In a letter dated November 11, 2025, and addressed to the chairperson of Zaitawa Ward, Koki said the lingering internal wrangling at the national level had hindered his ability to effectively represent his constituents.

“By virtue of the right conferred upon me by Section 40 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (1999 as amended), Article 7.1 of the NNPP Constitution, and other relevant laws, I hereby resign my membership of the NNPP effective Tuesday, November 11, 2025,” the letter read in part.

Koki, who was elected on the NNPP platform during the 2023 general elections, thanked the party leadership and members for their support and opportunity to serve, but did not disclose his next political move.

His resignation adds to the growing wave of defections from the NNPP in recent months, raising fresh concerns over the party’s stability and cohesion ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The development comes just two days after Hon. Abdulmumin Jibrin Kofa, the lawmaker representing Kiru/Bebeji Federal Constituency, also dumped the NNPP for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), pledging his support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid.
