No casualty in Ikorodu classroom collapse ― Lagos govt

The Lagos State Government has confirmed the collapse of a bungalow classroom block at Odo-Kekere High School in the Ikorodu area of the state, saying no casualty was recorded in the incident.

The Chairman of the Special Committee on Rehabilitation of Public Schools (SCRPS) in Lagos State, Hakeem Smith, made this known via a statement issued on Friday, January 16, 2026.

Smith stated: “A classified information from the SCRPS office reveals that the classroom block had already been marked for demolition in order to construct a befitting classroom edifice that will accommodate the huge population of students in the school.

“We also wish to state that no casualty was recorded at the building collapse. All of our students are in perfect condition.”

He added that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu had directed the immediate relocation of students to nearby schools to ensure that academic activities were not disrupted.

“A team of the officials of SCRPS will be visiting the school today, to have an on the spot assessment of the incident, in order to enable government work out modalities, to begin immediate construction of an ultra-modern classroom block, that will accommodate the huge population in the school,” Smith stated.

The residents of the Odo-Kekere were on Thursday evening were thrown into panic following the sudden partial collapse of the classroom.

According to the residents, the affected classroom block had earlier been marked for demolition as part of plans to construct a modern classroom edifice to cater for the school’s growing student population.
