‘No fire occurred’: FAAN clarifies Lagos airport incident

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has clarified that there was no fire outbreak at the Terminal 2 of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Ikeja, Lagos State, as it claimed earlier on Sunday.

FAAN, in a statement issued by its Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Henry Agbebite, said there was rather smoke discharge from the Terminal 2 FM-200 fire suppression system.

Agbebite said preliminary findings revealed that there was no fire at the terminal.

Agbebite said the smoke observed within the affected area resulted from discharge from the terminal’s FM-200 fire suppression system.

The FAAN spokesperson, however, noted an investigation has commenced into the reason for activation of the fire suppression system.

He stated: “Normal operations have since resumed at the terminal, while detailed investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause of the incident.

“FAAN appreciates the understanding and cooperation of passengers, airlines, airport users and all stakeholders, and reiterates its commitment to the safety and security of all airport operations.”

The authority had, in a statement issued earlier on Sunday, said there was a fire at the terminal.
