Nollywood actress Aunty Ajara dies after illness

Nollywood actress Ajara Lasisi, popularly known as Aunty Ajara, has passed away following a prolonged illness.

Her death was announced on Thursday by Nollywood director Tobi Oladele Teemony, also known as Tee Mony, in a statement shared on Instagram.

“With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved actress, Aunty Ajara. She passed on overnight after a long and courageous battle with illness,” the statement read.

Teemony said the late actress received “immense love, prayers, and financial support from kind-hearted people across the world” during her illness. He expressed gratitude to everyone who supported her through contributions, encouragement, and compassion.

He also appealed to the public to stop sending donations to the account previously used for her treatment, stating that financial assistance was “no longer required.”

“Our thoughts and prayers are with her family, loved ones, and everyone grieving this painful loss,” Teemony added.

The announcement was accompanied by a video message from her elder brother, Ridwan Lasisi. He confirmed her passing, saying, “The doctor confirmed to us this morning that Ajara has passed on. We appreciate everyone who has supported her and our family during this difficult time. We also kindly ask that no further donations be sent to her account.”

The news comes about a week after Teemony and other Nollywood figures, including Ronke Oshodi Oke, had appealed for urgent financial help for the actress, citing a worsening health condition despite ongoing treatment and support from well-wishers.

Reports indicated that the small-screen actress had been battling a liver-related illness and was pregnant, with her condition becoming critical and requiring oxygen support in hospital.

Several Nollywood stars, including Wumi Toriola, Mide Martins, Afeez Owo, and Ronke Oshodi Oke, had previously rallied support and called for public assistance for her treatment amid growing concern for her health.
