The National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) has appointed Ramatu O. Ibrahim as Acting Bursar following the death of the university’s substantive Bursar, Nasir G. Marafa.
Ibrahim’s appointment took effect on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, and will remain in place until further notice.
The university’s Registrar, Oladipo Ajayi, announced the development in a statement issued on Tuesday, saying the appointment was approved by Vice-Chancellor Uduma Oji Uduma with the concurrence of the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council, Isa Yuguda.
According to the statement, the appointment was made to maintain stability and ensure uninterrupted financial administration while the university adjusts to the loss of the substantive bursar.
The management also paid tribute to the late Marafa, describing him as a committed and dependable officer whose service was marked by professionalism and integrity.
It said his contributions to NOUN’s financial management and institutional development would be remembered and appreciated.
Prior to her new appointment, Ibrahim served as Deputy Bursar, Treasury, where she oversaw key aspects of the university’s treasury operations.
The university described her as an experienced administrator with extensive knowledge of its financial systems, having worked across several major units of the Bursary Department.
Her professional experience spans accounting, financial management, treasury operations and other administrative functions.
“In her immediate past role, Mrs. Ibrahim provided professional leadership and oversight of the university’s treasury operations,” the statement said.
NOUN said Ibrahim’s experience across different areas of the Bursary Department and familiarity with its financial and administrative processes positioned her to effectively manage the office.
The university expressed confidence that she would discharge her responsibilities with professionalism, diligence and integrity while ensuring that financial services remain transparent, accountable and efficient.
