NPA clears stranded NDPHC equipment worth billions

The Nigerian Ports Authority has facilitated the recovery and clearance of power equipment belonging to the Niger Delta Power Holding Company that had been held up at various Nigerian seaports.

The intervention is expected to help the NDPHC resume the deployment of the equipment for critical electricity projects while preventing potential losses running into billions of naira.

The NDPHC Managing Director, Jennifer Adighije, disclosed this during a visit by the company’s management team to the NPA Managing Director, Abubakar Dantsoho, and his team in Lagos.

Adighije said the equipment was needed for ongoing NDPHC projects and that delays in clearing the consignments could have increased project costs and affected completion timelines.

She commended the NPA for intervening to resolve the challenges surrounding the equipment, saying the action would support efforts to strengthen the country’s power infrastructure.

According to her, timely access to the equipment would enable contractors and project teams to proceed with scheduled works without further delays.

The NDPHC boss called for closer cooperation between the two agencies and other relevant government institutions to prevent bureaucratic bottlenecks from disrupting critical infrastructure projects.

She said the visit was also aimed at strengthening the strategic relationship between the NDPHC and NPA, particularly in facilitating the movement of power-sector equipment through Nigerian ports.

Responding, Dantsoho reaffirmed the NPA’s commitment to supporting government agencies involved in projects that contribute to economic development.

He said reliable electricity remained essential to industrialisation, economic growth and improved living standards.

Dantsoho assured the NDPHC that the ports authority would continue to facilitate the movement and clearance of critical equipment required for projects capable of strengthening Nigeria’s infrastructure.

He also pledged continued collaboration with the NDPHC and other strategic stakeholders to address challenges affecting the movement of essential project materials through the nation’s seaports.
