The Nigeria-South Africa Chamber of Commerce (NSACC) celebrated its 25th anniversary with a gala dinner in Lagos, gathering business leaders, diplomats and government officials to honour a quarter-century of strong bilateral economic cooperation.
The event, themed “Building Together,” highlighted the resilience of commercial ties between Africa’s two largest economies and renewed commitments to deeper collaboration.
Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu—represented by Commissioner for Commerce, Trade and Investment, Folashade Ambrose-Mendebem—praised NSACC as a crucial pillar of bilateral economic diplomacy and a key supporter of South African companies operating in Lagos.
He urged the private sector to invest in transformative sectors such as manufacturing, fintech, entertainment and green energy to drive Nigeria’s next phase of economic diversification.
NSACC Chair, Dr. Ije Jidenma, described the silver jubilee as evidence of the maturity of Nigeria–South Africa economic relations.
She stressed that the milestone should serve as a launchpad for greater impact, acknowledged the roles of founding members and partners, and outlined a five-year strategy focused on trust-building and strengthening trade ties.
South Africa’s Consul-General in Lagos, Prof. Bobby Moroe, commended the Chamber for “holding the fort” for 25 years, noting its anniversary aligns with 31 years of uninterrupted diplomatic relations.
He highlighted opportunities under the AfCFTA and encouraged businesses to leverage the NSACC platform to advance continental integration.
The evening featured an awards ceremony recognising contributors to Nigeria–South Africa relations, with MTN Nigeria receiving the Exceptional Partnership award, presented by its Chief Corporate Services & Sustainability Officer, Tobechukwu Okigbo.
The event concluded with high-level networking, reinforcing a shared commitment to a more integrated and prosperous African economy as the NSACC begins its next 25 years.
